Cacao

This week I went to a potential new Peace Corps site to evaluate it for future volunteers. The people who are interested in getting a volunteer farm cacao (aka chocolate before it gets delicious) and I took some pictures of the plantation. Here you go, and also, be sure to check out the video in the last post!

Me, the plantation manager, and the plantation owner. The tree on the left is a young cacao tree.

One of the workers splits a cacao shell with a machete to show me the difference between the two varieties they farm. One is for white chocolate and 'beauty products', the other is for real chocolate. No, white chocolate is not real chocolate, don't even suggest that to me.

Cacao!!

Youtube has deleted the video because of copyright, but Google Madagascar, A Journey Diary or the French, Madagascar, Carnet de Voyage, and you should be able to watch it.
